What Is The "Chase Trifecta"?

The “Chase Trifecta” is a name given by the credit card community to a group of three credit cards issued by Chase bank that are tried and true. The three Chase cards that make up this trifecta are:

  1. Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve®

  2. Chase Freedom Flex℠ or Chase Freedom (legacy card)

  3. Chase Freedom Unlimited®

Having these three cards will cover the widest spending categories which allows you the highest earning potential for Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

Chase Sapphire

The first Chase card is the Chase Sapphire Reserve or the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Both cards cover the travel and dining categories. However, the Chase Sapphire Reserve does come with more perks such as a $300 travel credit and Priority Pass Select but does come with a hefty fee of $550 while the Chase Sapphire Preferred has an annual fee of $95.

Chase Freedom Flex or Chase Freedom (Legacy)

Next, you have the Chase Freedom Flex or the Chase Freedom (discontinued and now called “Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards”). This card covers your 5x points on rotating quarterly categories up to $1,500 in purchases per quarter. Usually twice a year you’ll get gas, a nice holiday category, and a grocery category as well.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

The final card in the trifecta is the Chase Freedom Unlimited. The main benefit of this card is that it earns 1.5x points on all purchases without an earning limit. This is to be used as a “catch-all” card for those purchases that don’t have specific bonus categories.

Note: The Chase Freedom Unlimited and Chase Freedom Flex may be marketed as “cash back” but do indeed earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

With these three Chase cards in your portfolio, you’re well on your way to maximize your Chase Ultimate Rewards points earning and are one step closer to your dream destination.
