Delano in Las Vegas, Nevada
Property Review by UntoldMiles

When it comes to accommodations, Las Vegas has you covered. You can find budget hotel options which can cost you under $50 per night to suites that will cost you well over $25,000 per night. Here, we’ll go over the Delano which is part of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino property and is ranked on the lower end in terms of cost. You can find rates here for as low as $89-$109 depending on when you book and stay. Spoiler, I was pleasantly surprised with my stay here.

How I Booked

For my most recent stay at the Delano, I was able to utilize a $200 hotel credit which is a benefit of the American Express Platinum Card. Since both me and my wife have a Platinum Card, we were able to utilize a total of $400 in hotel credits and book a two night stay at the Delano through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts portal which comes with additional perks and benefits.

Some benefits of the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts include (based on availability):

  • 12pm Check-In

  • Room upgrade

  • Daily Breakfast For Two ($30 breakfast credit/person)

  • $100 Experience Credit

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

  • Guaranteed 4pm Check-Out

For the Delano, you get a $100 Food and Beverage Credit which could be used during the stay. This credit can be used at over 120 MGM Resorts restaurants, bars, and lounges. All you have to do is bill the charges to your room at the Delano.

What It Cost

Booking through the American Express travel portal, I was able to make 2 one night reservations back to back at the Delano, for $211.18. The total for two rooms comes out to $422.36. Utilizing two $200 hotel credits from our two American Express Platinum cards, the total comes down to $22.36.

But wait, what about the property credits?

Included in our stay, was a $100 Food and Beverage Credit and breakfast for two, which at $30 per person, is a total of $60 for breakfast. In total, we’re getting $160 in credits that we can use for food and drinks. Since we booked two nights, we got a total of $320 total in food and beverage credits.

So yes, while we did pay $22.36 out of pocket for a two night stay at the Delano, we got $320 in food and beverage credits alone. I think that’s worth it! If you want to talk about the American Express Platinum card and see if it’s right for you, email me here.

Arrival and Parking

You have two options for parking a car at the Delano. The first option is to self park in the garage which is attached to the Mandalay property. If you are MGM Gold or above, your parking fees will be waived. Otherwise, self parking is about $18. The second option is valet parking which will cost you about $26 to $30 per day. Accurate and up to date pricing here.

If you choose to self park, parking by the elevators will always be the best spot. After you exit the elevator, instead of going through the casino property, exit the glass doors on your left and head straight. This will take you towards the valet parking area which is a much more direct route to the Delano than going through the casino.

Note: Make sure you have your physical MGM card to utilize the free parking if you’re Gold or higher.

First Impressions

It’s not hard to miss the Mandalay Bay and the Delano as these two properties are dressed in gold and tower high over the skyline of Las Vegas. Whether you walk in from the casino side or the valet side, you’ll be met with a grand entrance which features dark wood, ambient lighting, and modern sculptures. The way they designed this lobby area of the Delano really brings together a polished and luxurious feel while keeping it open and welcoming at the same time.

Lobby Area and Check-In

Once you enter the main lobby area, you will find a large open seating area, a well stocked bar, a small coffee + tea stand with pastries and breakfast foods, and the spacious check-in area.

At the check-in desk, I was greeted warmly and quickly checked in. Before giving me the room keys, I was given a quick run down of my additional benefits which came from the Armorican Express Fine Hotels and Resorts. Included in the brief overview was a cheat sheet which lists all the MGM properties that I could use the food and beverage credits at as well as a welcome/benefits letter from Andy Meese, the VP of Hospitality.

Our Suite

Since this is an “All Suites Hotel”, all the rooms here are spacious. This includes a separate living room area with a couch, tv, small desk, sink, mini bar, separate sleeping area, spacious bathroom with both a standing shower and tub, and two toilets.

The carpet in our first room was oddly wet so I had to ask them to move us. The front desk ensured that the rooms were checked before guests are given the room but I understand that you would have no idea the carpet was wet if you had shoes on, which I expect housekeeping to have on while cleaning. We were upgraded to a higher floor with a room that has a built in air purifier. Everything else was same so other than the higher floor, I wouldn’t consider it a true upgrade.

Having a suite was nice since we had our kids with us. The extra space allowed us to spread out a little and the separation between the living room and bedroom means that we can work or watch tv without bugging those who want to sleep.

Food and Dining

On-site at the Delano, for breakfast, you have two options. The first “grab and go” option is called 3940 Coffee + Tea. It’s located in the lobby of the Delano, near the valet entrance. Here, you’ll find all sorts of breakfast pastries, sandwiches, coffees, teas, and more. The second breakfast (and lunch) option is going to be Della’s Kitchen. This is located in the long hallway between the Delano lobby and the casino area. It’s an American style eatery with rotating seasonal food items as well. Della’s Kitchen does have odd business hours so check it out here before you go!

If you’re using the breakfast credit you get for booking through American Express, you can also grab breakfast at the Seabreeze Cafe. This eatery is not located in the Delano but it’s only a short 5 minute walk across the casino floor. The Seabreeze Cafe is the one you’ll want to go to for your breakfast credits in my opinion.

For an upscale dinner option at the Delano, you have the Rivera. This restaurant is located on the 64th floor of the Delano and provides an amazing view of the Las Vegas skyline.

Again, if you have access to the $100 Food and Beverage Credit via the American Express travel portal, you can utilize this credit at 120 MGM locations and not just at the Delano. View the full 120 locations here.

The Skyfall Lounge is open 5pm to midnight Mondays to Sundays with special hours on Fridays and Saturdays. This is the Delano’s premier bar/club/lounge area and is located at the top of the Delano. You can find the entrance to the Skyfall lounge in the main hallway between the Delano lobby and the casino main floor. If you’re looking for a beautiful panoramic view of Las Vegas and the night sky, this is the place to be.

Final Thoughts

We were very pleasantly surprised at our stay at the Delano. Initially, we thought our stay would have been average due to how low the rate was but we were very wrong. The property was beautiful, the guest service was impeccable, the amenities and dining options were adequate, access to our vehicle and nearby activities were easy, and the best part, in my opinion, is how not very busy it was during our stay. We’ve stayed at other big name properties on the strip like the Bellagio and been to Caesar’s Palace and those places are always so crowded and busy. It’s a nice hidden gem since it is a hotel that is set further back on the Mandalay Bay property.

Having access to a suite for any booking and being able to utilize any and all Mandalay Bay amenities, makes this property one that we’ll be coming back to and recommend.
